Alex and I met in 2012 in college through mutual friends; I was a freshman and he was a senior. I had this big school-girl crush on him and couldn't have imagined he'd ever be interested in me. The next year, we often found ourselves at the same hangouts, quickly bonding over TV shows, our love of sushi, and our desires to travel. In the fall of 2013, we started dating.
In June of 2019, Alex proposed on top of a mountain after a hike in Seattle, Washington. Despite it being the first day of summer, the weather was cold, gray, and drizzly. After summiting the mountain, we walked around the glacial lake at the top looking for the perfect spot to enjoy a snack. When it was time to go and brave the hike down, Alex stood and pulled out the most beautiful ring I'd ever seen. Before he could say anything, before even kneeling, I started crying. Then I blacked out! Despite being a bit fuzzy on the details recall, it was the most genuine, intimate, surprising, scenic proposal. It was just us, no friends or family, no hidden photographers. And as if in a true fairytale, after Alex popped the question, and I caught my breath enough to say yes, the sky cleared and the sun broke through to really make it a perfect moment.
Alex and I celebrated 6 years in November, and they've been the best six years of our lives. From wild adventures such as backpacking across Europe and riding camels in the Middle East to having cozy nights in, making ramen from scratch and countlessly rewatching Harry Potter, we wouldn't change a single second. We're both so lucky to be spending the rest of our lives together, and we can't wait to say "I do!"
