Our Love Story

“Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.” — Emily Brontë

If you ask us when we fell in love, we wouldn’t point to one moment. We’d point to a thousand quiet ones — starting with a glance across a classroom at Brock University. It was 2013. We were two students in a first-year communications class, navigating lectures, cold coffee, and crowded hallways. We never spoke, but we noticed each other immediately — the kind of glance that lingers just a little too long, the kind that makes you wonder if something meaningful has already begun. We passed each other often on campus — across the quad, between classes, in the quiet rhythm of university life. A smile here, a glance there. It was subtle, magnetic, and completely unspoken. But the timing wasn’t ours. Not yet. We graduated and life carried us in different directions, though every now and then we’d still think about that moment — that look across the classroom — and wonder if it had meant something after all. Years later, we met for dinner at The Keg. Just a catch-up, or so we told ourselves. But the moment we saw each other, everything came rushing back. That same feeling. That same spark. It felt less like the beginning of something new and more like the return of something we’d never quite let go of. From that night on, it was us. We spent our time in slow dinners, late-night drives, and quiet mornings with coffee and playlists. When the world slowed during the pandemic, we built something even deeper — a love that grew in the stillness. In 2021, we moved into our first home together with our beloved dog, Mr. — a chow chow poodle mix with sweet eyes and a whole lot of personality. Since then, we’ve built a life full of small, beautiful moments — Sunday pancakes, movie nights, and the quiet understanding that comes from choosing each other again and again. Looking back now, it’s funny how love waits for you. Quietly. Patiently. Until the timing is finally right. Ours took its time. But when it came, it came all at once.

The Proposal

Positano felt like it had been waiting for us. The kind of place that doesn’t just look like a postcard — it feels like one. That afternoon we had lunch at Terrazza Celè, overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, framed by bougainvillea swaying in the breeze. We ordered fresh pasta and Aperol Spritzes, clinking our glasses in the sunshine. Melissa thought it was simply another perfect day in Positano. Chase knew it was much more. After lunch, Chase led Melissa down to the dock where a private boat was waiting — just for the two of us. We set off along the Amalfi Coast, sipping champagne and sharing charcuterie as the cliffs passed by in golden light. As the sun began to dip, the boat pulled into the Fiordo di Furore — a dramatic fjord tucked between towering cliffs and crossed by a stone bridge known as the lovers’ arch. The sea had other plans. Waves tossed the boat wildly and the wind whipped around us. In the middle of the chaos, Chase reached into his pocket, pulled out a ring, and got down on one knee. Melissa wrapped her arms around him as the boat rocked beneath us. And in that moment — surrounded by crashing waves and towering cliffs — everything felt perfectly still. She said yes. The easiest yes of her life. That evening we celebrated at Franco’s Bar, overlooking the glowing coastline of Positano, replaying every moment and laughing between happy tears. It was the kind of night you hold onto forever —the kind that lives in your bones long after the champagne is gone,
the kind you dream about before it ever happens. And now, it’s ours. Always.
