Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Emily Varnis and Derek MacKinnon
We're so excited and grateful that many of our friends and family are traveling to Annapolis & Kent Island to spend our wedding weekend with us. For those coming from out of the area, please see some recommended things to do, as well as some of our favorite bars and restaurants in the area.
Naval Academy

Naval Academy

Annapolis, MD

Walk around one of the most historic institutions in the United States. Anyone visiting will need to park outside the Academy and walk in through Gate 1. All visitors 18 years of age or older must have a valid REAL ID Compliant Driver’s License or State ID card (look for the five point star on the driver’s license), United States Passport, or Enhanced Driver’s License (EDL). Please note that as a result of the REAL ID Act, some state/territory IDs are not sufficient for access to the Academy. Please refer to the Security/Access FAQs on the website for more information.

Annapolis City Dock

Annapolis City Dock

Dock Street, Annapolis, MD 21401

Mosey down Main Street from Church Circle to City Dock and you'll discover dozens of unique, locally-owned fashion boutiques and specialty gift shops tucked in between art galleries, pubs, restaurants and historic inns. Many of these small shop owners import their hand-crafted goods from far-off lands, just as town merchants have been doing for the past 350 years. Can also look to tail a cruise out on the Chesapeake Bay if the weather permits!

Blue Heron Golf Course

Blue Heron Golf Course

3270 Romancoke Road, Stevensville, MD 21666

Blue Heron Golf Course is outstanding MD Eastern Shore golf, located right on Kent Island just south of our wedding venue. Note, there are no tee times; simply first come, first play. A bit more laid back / casual for a wedding weekend round of golf.

Middleton Tavern

Middleton Tavern

2 Market Space, Annapolis, MD 21401

Middleton Tavern is a wonderful historic pub located directly next to our Welcome Drinks event at McGarvey's. Middleton Tavern was host to a galaxy of the nation's most revered leaders during the period following the American Revolution. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin were numbered among their prominent patrons.

The Choptank

The Choptank

110 Compromise Street, Annapolis, MD 21401

One of our favorite places to get a drink, and one of the nicest restaurants in Annapolis situated right on the marina, Choptank is a great place for a night of food and drinks. Local seafood takes the spotlight on The Choptank menu with many selections that are freshly caught in Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay. Enjoy the famous steamed blue crabs and crab cakes that are seasoned with The Choptank’s own special proprietary recipe.

Cult Classic Brewing

Cult Classic Brewing

1169 Shopping Center Road, Stevensville, MD 21666

Cult Classic is a casual brewery (the only on Kent Island!) offering a range of beers, pub food, and live entertainment. Cult Classic brews all beer in-house with 15+ varieties to choose from in their taproom which also features a full bar and kitchen with everything you need to get you through the night.
