James Madison's Montpelier
Once home to President James Madison and his wife Dolley, Montpelier is a historic estate with beautiful grounds and fascinating exhibits. While Jonathan and I haven’t made it out there yet, it’s high on our list of must-dos—and a great spot if you’re looking for a mix of history and scenery during your visit.

The area around Somerset and Orange is full of charming vineyards and cideries, many within 30 minutes: Castle Hill Cider (Keswick, VA) – Estate ciders served in a rustic barn setting. Chateau MerrillAnne (Orange, VA) – Small winery with relaxed vibes and scenic views. Reynard Florence Vineyard (Barboursville, VA) – Family-owned, handcrafted wines with mountain views. Horton Vineyards (Gordonsville, VA) – Known for Viognier and Rhône varietals in a rustic stone tasting room. Barboursville Vineyards (Barboursville, VA) – One of Virginia’s best-known wineries, with extensive tastings and on-site dining.
