Kayla and Shane met online on Bumble in Atlanta around October 2020. They clicked instantly and decided to meet in person for the first time at the Punch Bowl Social at The Battery a month later. Everything went exceptionally well after that, and they saw each other more and more often, falling more and more in love. It was a perfect relationship that any couple would want. However, it quickly became a long-distance relationship. Shane’s mother had a major stroke right around the time he met Kayla, and had to move back to Birmingham to help take care of his mother. But no matter, Shane and Kayla made it work by visiting each other, taking turns driving to Atlanta and Birmingham every other week. That is nearly 4,498 miles and 65 hours spent driving for 2 years! Luckily, Kayla was still working from home as a technical writer so she could stay at his place for a whole week. They had a fun long-distance relationship for 2 years. After Kayla’s rent ran out in Atlanta, Shane and Kayla both agreed to live with each other in Birmingham in January 2023. A few months later, they bought a house together. Fast forwarding to a year, around Kayla’s birthday in March 2024, Shane rented a cabin in the mountains in Blue Ridge, Georgia. On March 15, 2024, after a fun day about the town in Blue Ridge, Shane proposed after 3 years of dating. Now they will marry on April 12, 2025, at a family-owned venue: Brunson Farms, Rainbow City, Alabama. Before their marriage date, they would be together for 4 years.
Shane was born in Pell City, Alabama on December 15, 1992. He is the only child, but has an older half-brother that he grew up with. He was raised in Hoover, Alabama. He attended Auburn University after graduating high school in 2011, studying Psychology for his first BA. He also played trombone in the Auburn Marching Band (high school as well), and was also a part of the fraternity Phi Kappa Psi. After obtaining his psychology degree, he pursued to obtain his Marketing degree as well, and graduated in 2019. After graduating Auburn with two bachelor degrees, he moved to Atlanta to pursue greater things. He lived and worked in Atlanta for 3 years before meeting Kayla and moving back to Alabama. He currently works as a operations manager at an industrial equipment seller. In his past time, he likes to watch comedy podcasts and stand-up, play video games, play DnD every other Thursday, music, animals, hiking, camping, reading, movies and TV shows.
Kayla was born on an army base in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, March 4, 1993. Her father was still in the army then. After a couple of months old, Kayla and her family moved to the Netherlands, thanks to her mother's nationality. She was raised in Capelle aan den Ijssel / Rotterdam. Dutch is her first language, and barely spoke English when she arrived to the U.S. At 9 years old, in 2002, Kayla moved to Atlanta, Georgia where she would spent the other half of her life. She has one younger brother who was born in the Netherlands but moved to the States shortly after birth. After graduating high school in 2012, she moved back to Rotterdam in the Netherlands after being accepted in Erasmus University Rotterdam to study Communications, and Liberal Arts & Science. She moved back to Atlanta around 2014 and finished her college career at Georgia State University with a BA in journalism in 2019.
