How We Met

(His POV)

We met at a restaurant after matching on Hinge, and I remember being way more nervous than I expected. I know I didn't want to waste any time. I figured her inbox was probably full, so I wasted no time in my pursuit. Not long into the date, she smiled and pulled out her list, an actual list, of values she was looking for in a partner. It was the most endearing Type A thing I'd ever seen, and somehow it made me like her even more. By the end of the same night, I didn't want the moment to end, I walked her to her car and asked her if she'd go to the Marine Corps Ball with me. And just like that, something really special began.

How We Met

(Her POV)

My Maid of Honor actually found him when browsing on Hinge. She showed me his profile since he seems like my type. I remember saying, “Aww… I want him…” and handed the phone back, thinking I’d never see him again. The next day, he popped up in my inbox. I was like, "It's HIM. Alright, game time. Dont fuck it up!" By the end of the night, he asked for my number and planned our first date for the very next day. This man moved QUICK lol. He took me to a French restaurant for our first date. I wasn't too nervous. He seemed serious about finding his forever person. I brought up the topic of our values. I literally opened my Notes app and read him my list (I had just written it down a few days ago and was excited to share it with someone). He liked that crap lol. At the end of the night, he walked me to my car and lingered… I panicked a little because I do not kiss on first dates. But instead of going in for a kiss, he asked me to the Marine Corps Ball. I said yes. He wanted to see me again the next night and again the following night… And everything just kept falling into place after that :)

The Proposal

We got engaged at the Marine Corps Ball a year later… and no, I did not see it coming. At the end of the night, we hopped into a 360 camera booth to take a video, thinking it’d just be something fun to look back on later. Cameron dropped to one knee… My first reaction was: “Wait… right here?!” I was genuinely surprised because if you know Cameron, he’s a quiet and private guy. I had convinced myself he was going to propose the following weekend at a picnic he had already planned. There wasn’t a long, drawn-out speech. He was nervous. With the BIGGEST smile on his face, he looked up at me and asked me to marry him. Simple, direct… very him lol. It all happened so fast that I don’t think I fully processed it in the moment. I just remember feeling this mix of shock, happiness, and this calm certainty of of course it’s him. (He did think about proposing on the dance floor to our song, I Want It That Way by Backstreet Boys, but decided not to take attention away from the Marines’ celebration.)
