It all began in June 2017 in the final weeks of spring quarter at UCLA. Rachel was studying Political Science; Matt was studying Economics. In order to properly prepare for finals, we did what any other UCLA students would do, go clubbing in West Hollywood. We met that night through mutual friends and immediately hit it off. We talked and danced for hours and ended up shutting the place down. Matt was immediately intrigued by Rachel’s feistiness and Rachel was drawn to Matt’s outgoing personality. As the night came to an end, Matt made a desperate attempt at seeing Rachel again by planning a group hike with friends the following morning in Malibu. Matt had completed this hike at least 5 times before, and was certain that when you reached the fork in the trail that the correct direction was right, not left. He knew if he could just get this one part right, he would get to stand on one of the most breathtaking views of Los Angeles with Rachel by his side. For 4 hours, the group trekked through the rough terrain. Matt insisted “we’re almost there” and “I think it’s right around this corner." However, there was one small issue. It was left at the fork, not right. Matt had led the group in the opposite direction. Soon enough, the group ran out of water, everyone was scraped up from the briar patches they had to climb through, and people were starting to get hungry. Defeated, the girls insisted we turn around and call it a day. Despite Matt getting everyone lost, it didn’t matter one bit as we spent the entire time cracking jokes and getting to know each other. We realized that day that our personalities meshed really well (opposites do attract), so we exchanged numbers after the hike and the rest is history. Since then, we have created so many memories together. We have taken amazing trips abroad, gone on ski trips, been to multiple national parks, sang our heart’s out at Stagecoach, spent weekends in Matt’s hometown in North Carolina, danced our butt’s off at friends’ weddings, spent weekends wine tasting, and attended numerous LA sporting events (go Bruins). Whether we are traveling or at home, we are constantly searching for the next best meal and will never say no to a good slice of pizza or a cheeseburger. After 6 years together, we can’t wait to celebrate our special day with all of you on April 15th!
