Til Death Do Us Party

We met during a JROTC leadership field trip to Camp Bell in May 2011. During the bonfire, Maddie was talking with a friend when she sat on a massive log. Little did she know seconds later she was going to be tossed off the log and land on her future husbands lap. Maddie was so embarrassed but Cody kept it cool, saying, “hey what’s up?” As Maddie casually dropped out of no where. The rest is history.

It all started at the Scituate Light House in Massachusetts. Cody, Maddie, and their oldest daughter Abigail were going to get maternity photos done courtesy of Kraig and Nicole Hoag. The weather was weird that day. It wasn't raining but was overcast and cold. The waves were so high it was flooding the neighborhoods surrounding the Light House. We almost couldn't make it to the photoshoot without flooding Codys car. We took some of the most beautiful photos! We didn't get maternity photos with Abigail, so this was a huge excitement for all three of us! After an hour or so of photographs, our small family decided to go take an outfit change. Maddie was changing in the front seat of Cody's Subaru, which at 8 months pregnant was not easy! While the girls were changing, Cody was trying to sneak the ring box into his back pocket without us noticing. He succeeded! After the outfit change, Cody and Maddie stood up on a beautiful rock wall to get a few shots with the cold, wet waves in the background. Abigail fell behind the photographer and Maddie was trying to go help her, very slowly. Cody dropped to one knee waiting for Maddie to turn around. Once Maddie turned around for help, she saw the ring box and was in disbelief! After almost 10 years together he was finally going to ask her to marry him!! Cody asked, "Will you marry me?" Maddie couldn't wait to say YES!! Abigail was excited and also confused on where her new ring was! Mommy was finally going to be a Kochanek just like her, daddy and baby Ellie!!!
