Chris and Colleen are both from different small towns here in West Virginia. One thing they had in common long before meeting was their career choice. Both went to x-ray school at different colleges but ended up working in the same department at CAMC General. Chris had worked there for a while, and the two had met while Colleen was still a UC student, but only in passing and not on a personal level. Fast forward to about a year into Colleen's career, she was picking up overtime shifts more frequently and soon enough more of her shifts corresponded with Chris'. Slowly, the two were encountering one another more often at work and learning more about each other, basically from other coworkers, because neither of them had worked up the courage to show interest beyond work. However, one day an emergency room patient became a mutual patient of Colleen and Chris'. He was for CT first and Colleen was looking for him for X-ray orders. Chris helped bring the patient into the X-ray room and after a few embarrassing comments from the patient, both Colleen and Chris were blushing. This was the first time the two of them had worked together and after just one personal interaction, both were intrigued. However, it was Colleen that made the first move. She dug up department phone numbers and found Chris' and reached out first. The couple gives a lot of the credit to their mutual patient for breaking the ice for them.
Chris and Colleen were discussing vacation ideas for the Summer of 2019. Chris suggested planning a trip to New York City, because he knew it is Colleen's favorite. Chris had never been and wanted to see what all the hype was about. (Little did Colleen know, Chris had been wanting to visit so he could propose on their trip.) Once the couple arrived in NYC, after checking in to their hotel, they made their way to Central Park. Central Park is Colleen's favorite part of the city. It had been raining that day leading up to their arrival and was still drizzling a little bit while they explored through the Park. Colleen noticed Chris had been a little quiet but when she asked him if everything was okay, he told her he was just overwhelmed with how big everything was and was just trying to take it all in. When the couple arrived at the Bethesda Terrace and Fountain, Colleen began requesting to take pictures and both were enjoying people watching and just admiring it all. Chris began to get very serious, so much so, that Colleen thought something was wrong! However, he was just beginning his proposal! After getting down on one knee, he asked the easiest question Colleen ever had to answer. After many happy tears, the couple was engaged and on cloud nine. Colleen and Chris enjoyed the remainder of their long weekend in NYC as an engaged couple. It was the perfect surprise, Chris pulled it off flawlessly.
