Travel Note

How to get to Carmel Valley

Because this is a destination wedding, we recommend arranging your travel plans as soon as possible to avoid extra costs. Carmel Valley is south of the Bay Area and about 15 miles east of Monterey, CA, accessible by car or bus. While the wedding venue itself is somewhat remote, the surrounding region is well-served by all modes of transportation, and, especially if your lodging is in Carmel Valley Village, it may not be necessary to rent or bring a car.

Flight

If you're flying in...

If you are flying from Southern California, we recommend flying nonstop into Monterey Airport on United Airlines from Los Angeles, or Alaska Airlines from San Diego. If you are flying from the East Coast or elsewhere, you can likely fly nonstop into San Francisco, San Jose, or Oakland airports, or get a connecting flight into Monterey Airport by flying through either a California hub or Dallas, Denver, Phoenix, or Seattle, all of which offer nonstop flights to Monterey.

Train

Amtrak

A direct Amtrak train runs to Salinas, CA from Sacramento, Oakland, San Jose, Los Angeles, and several points in between. You can buy a single ticket to Monterey that includes the train to Salinas and a coordinated Amtrak shuttle bus connection (45 minutes, included in rail fare) to downtown Monterey.

Travel Note

Ground transportation to Monterey

All airports are served by public transportation. The Monterey Airbus runs approximately every hour from San Francisco International Airport (2 hours 30 minutes, $50) and San Jose International Airport (1 hour 30 minutes, $40) directly to downtown Monterey. The Monterey Airport is also connected to downtown Monterey by a Monterey-Salinas Transit bus (30 minutes, $1.50).

Travel Note

Ground transportation to Carmel Valley Village

Twelve daily Monterey-Salinas Transit buses connect downtown Monterey with downtown Carmel Valley (50 minutes, $2.50). The last buses leave Carmel Valley (westbound) at 6pm and Monterey (eastbound) at 7pm, so this is only an option for guests staying in Carmel Valley or willing to Uber/Lyft back to Monterey later Saturday evening. Nearly all lodging options along Carmel Valley Road, including the Contenta Inn, are a short walk from a bus stop. The Camp at Carmel Valley is about three miles outside Carmel Valley Village, and could be a short Uber/Lyft, taxi, or carpool ride for guests without a car.
