Occoquan is one of our favorite spots in Woodbridge—we even took our engagement photos here! This neighborhood is a quaint, hidden gem of an artists' community with over 100 shops, cafes, and small businesses to explore. Occoquan offers everything from antiques, arts, crafts, fashions, and gifts—not to mention delicious food! Some great spots: Mill House Museum located on the far end of town, River Mill Park, and a ton of fantastic restaurants: The Secret Garden Cafe, Grind N Crepe, Bistro L'Hermitage, Cock & Bowl, and Madigan's Waterfront. Enjoy the boardwalk, gazebos, and rows of gorgeous waterfront townhomes!
This is Luigi's favorite spot to walk! Michelle grew up just down the street from the Lake Ridge Marina, and it's one of our favorite places in the area. In the summer, you can rent pedal boats, canoes, and kayaks, but the many wooded trails are open all year long for outdoor hiking fun. The piers and docks offer picturesque views no matter the season, and this is a popular, low-key spot hidden in the heart of Lake Ridge. Lace up your boots and bring your furry friends here—they will love it as much as (or even more than) you!
The Smithsonian Institution is home to 21 (COMPLETELY FREE!!!) museums, as well as the National Zoo. Some of our personal favorites include the Natural History Museum, the Air and Space Museum, and American History Museum... but Michelle's particularly obsessed with the National Portrait Gallery, the National Gallery of Art, and the U.S. Botanic Garden. We recommend that you take the Metro from Franconia-Springfield down to the National Mall.
Welcome to “America’s Front Yard!" The long, grassy National Mall is home to iconic monuments including the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument. At the eastern end is the domed U.S. Capitol, and the White House is to the north. It's also flanked by Smithsonian museums. Nearby, the Tidal Basin reservoir is known for its blossoming cherry trees, attracting tourists from all over the world in the springtime. Take a journey across DC on foot—you'll be able to see some of the most popular and historic landmarks in the world... in one go!
The largest indoor outlet mall in Virginia, Potomac Mills Mall is divided into four distinct neighborhoods all on one ground level. A classic Woodbridge hangout spot (besides the IKEA next door, of course!) Pop some tags before our big day!
One of the best places in the area to spend an afternoon or evening! Catch a movie at the Alamo Cinema Drafthouse, grab a box of warm Duck Donuts, and enjoy upscale shopping. Michelle's favorite spot here is the Barnes & Noble, obviously.
Spend a day at the most visited historic estate in America: George Washington's Mount Vernon! Explore the sprawling gardens, take a tour of the gorgeously preserved mansion, and visit the estate museum for a hands-on historical experience. The view of the Potomac from the top of Mount Vernon's hill will take your breath away!
For a peaceful hike, family outing, or an exploration of the area’s rich history, the 800-acre Great Falls Park is a must-see. Come for extraordinary views of the Potomac River and Great Falls, along with 15 miles of hiking trails, and five miles of horseback riding and biking trails. Great Falls has gorgeous scenery, rolling rapids, and miles of nature to explore. Needless to say, we love it here.
Woodbridge's proximity to the Nation's Capital makes it a wonderful place to live and work. Visit this website for more ideas on how to make the most of your time in town!
