After a taking a holiday hiatus from dating, Katy's sister (& Maid of Honor), commandeered her phone one January Sunday and restarted her online dating campaign. That day, she unknowingly swiped right on Katy's future husband! Weeks later, Katy found the promising suitor and finally responded to his opening line: a question about her selfie with her (now passed; RIP Milo) dog. He asked "Is that your dog?!" Katy replied "No, that's my mother." The delayed and confusing response caught Cody off guard as he struggled to understand how he could have made such an error. Before he went absolutely insane. Katy responded again "Just kidding, yes that is my dog." Cody now knows this is the very woman with whom he'd be chuckling for the rest of his life. After some small talk, Cody told Katy his aunt works on the 3rd floor of the Childrens' Hospital at which both the Bride and Maid of Honor are employed. Katy quickly texted her sister, Samantha, "Do you know Molly Killion?" Sam responded quickly, "Yeah she is awesome!"' So Katy sent the most important text of her love life, "My sister says your aunt is cool... here is my number" Upon receiving these digits, not only did Cody invite Katy out on her last first date, he also messaged his Aunt, (and Groomswoman) Molly, and said "thanks for getting me a date!"
Katy and Cody planned and threw a Haunted Housewarming party on November 1st to celebrate Cody's fulfillment of his life-long goal to own his own home. Katy worked a 12 hour shift on the day before, Halloween, and dressed up along with her coworkers as one of the 101 Dalmations. Little did she know, Cody was at their home, planning a surprise proposal. Katy came home through the garage, as she always does, with her myriad of bags and things, as she always does, dressed in her scrubs and spotted puppy ears, as she almost never does. When she opened the door to their backyard patio, Cody had set up a million candles and roses. He said from around the corner, without seeing her, "Do you want to put down your things and come a bit closer?" She responded, "Should I take off my ears?" "Leave the bags... keep the ears." Cody said. And she did. He knelt on one knee and proposed making their happiest moment yet.
Because they're so excited to start their lives and a family together, Katy and Cody almost forewent throwing a wedding in favor of running to the old courthouse and quietly making their marriage legal. But after talking with family and friends and going to events together, the two decided they wanted to start their union with all their loved ones and a great party. They started their planning the day before Thanksgiving...a short timeframe for everyone involved. They are so very grateful for everyone's flexibility and willingness to accommodate and celebrate them.
