Austin and I first met in high school (gross, I know, it gets worse). I had moved to Layton my senior year and wasn’t going to put the effort in to make new friends when I was leaving for college that summer. I became somewhat of a hermit, eating lunch in the library and focusing on my plethora of college classes. Austin was easily the most popular boy at our school. Football captain, homecoming king, and every teacher’s favorite student. Well known and well loved, for anyone that’s met Austin this shouldn’t surprise you. We had a class together, Mrs. Lucas’s Family Relations class. He sat directly in front of me. A few months into second semester, I followed him on Instagram (he was cute) and he followed me back. For those of you that don’t know, I grew up in Seattle, a few short miles from city center. My dad played college football, and SportsCenter was a regular source of entertainment growing up. I loved the Seahawks. Russell Wilson was my childhood quarterback. So when he signed with the Broncos (the worst team in the NFL) I was appalled and posted on my story about it. Austin’s first words (or DM) were, “Ew, you like the Seahawks.” And the rest is history. Within 24 hours we had a date planned and a few weeks later we went to prom. TGFRW stands for “Thank God for Russell Wilson.” We wouldn’t have met if Russell hadn’t signed with the Broncos (Austin’s favorite team), and we’re eternally grateful for it.
