How We Met ♥︎

Drinks, Ducks, and Weeping Willows

We met how all the cool kids meet nowadays- online! Catherine had just recently moved to Cambridge to go to law school, not really knowing anyone in the area. Sam was a newer resident to Somerville too, moving soon after graduating college to start his new job. We texted for a few days at first, with our first conversations being about crucial topics such as Sasha (our cat!), our favorite Studio Ghibli movies, and what instruments we'd love to learn how to play someday. For a little while, Catherine's friends only knew Sam as "saxophone boy," since hey, playing the saxophone is a pretty uncommon and cool skill! On our first date, we grabbed coffees to go in Davis Square and headed on down the Somerville Community Path. It was late September 2021, the air still warm and the leaves bright and green on the trees covering the path. We stopped at the end of the Alewife Brook Greenway, where there's a small pond surrounded by willow trees, fountains in the water, and plenty of ducks and geese wandering around. We picked out a picnic table underneath one of the trees and honestly? Neither of us has any idea what on earth we talked about that day. All we remember is laughing a lot, enjoying spending time getting to know each other and admiring the views. After getting home, Catherine immediately texted her sister Victoria that "saxophone boy" could be upgraded to a name- Sam! We had no idea at the time that we would come back to that pond very often, bringing oats to feed the ducks, sitting under the willow trees, and simply relaxing together. Since then, we've grown together in so many ways. We've seen each other through both difficult and incredible times, learning over time how best to uplift and support each other and get the most joy (no pun intended) out of life. Whether it's a night out at a concert, cooking and slow dancing to Latin jazz in the kitchen, or making a pot of tea, a charcuterie board, and watching a show together, we always make the absolute most of our time together and laugh just as much as we did on our first date. Now, three years later, we're so excited to be getting married and moving into our next phase of life! We're thrilled to be sharing this day with all of you. Whether you've known us since we were little or have only gotten to know us in the past few years, you've all been so incredibly supportive, loving, and we wouldn't be where we are today without all of you. See you on November 10th! :) -Catherine & Sam
