We met June 4th, 2021, following a yoga class on a warm, sunny Friday evening in Marin County, CA. Still mid-Covid, the class was outside on the deck, facing Mt. Tamalpais, and Josh had ridden his bike there from his apartment in nearby San Rafael. Rebecca was living in her apartment in San Francisco's Marina District at the time, and was helping out at the studio of her favorite yoga instructor, Stephanie Snyder, aptly called Love Story Yoga. As Josh was leaving, he said "hi" and asked Rebecca to make sure he was checked-in for the class. She misheard his name, and asked if it was his first time at the studio. It wasn't - turns out Steph is also one of Josh's favorite yoga instructors. This led to a fun and slightly flirty conversation, followed by beers, and a spontaneous evening out together in downtown San Rafael - live music, al fresco dinner at The Kitchen Table, and then an extended hang at Josh's apartment, full of lively discussion about everything and nothing, with a heavy focus on music. When Rebecca left to go home, after midnight, Josh proposed they start a shared Spotify playlist that became a proxy for their rapidly growing emotional connection. The playlist is called "Tag, You're It."
Derived from the Taylor Swift song "Invisible String," we made up our own name for the sacred and durable bond that connects our hearts (and Sarah's too) across space and time.
Just down the street from Pierce House, in front of the Lincoln Library, there is beautiful and beloved tree with a distinctive, twisted trunk. Inspired by that 100-year-old Northern Catalpa, for our paper invitations we used images of flowers from the tree at different stages of bloom. The "save the date" has an early spring blossom, and the formal invitation has the flower at it's full expression, typically in June, about the time when the invitations should arrive in the mail. As a "mane" attraction in Lincoln, Ponyhenge resides on wide open land filled with plastic and metal rocking horses, ponies and other equidae-related toys. No one really knows who is responsible for this, or why, sometimes the ponies choose to rearrange themselves. Be afraid. Be very afraid.
