After connecting on a dating app, Isabelle and Andrew met for their first date at Idiom Brewing in Frederick, Maryland. Over a few drinks on the patio, they quickly grew comfortable in each other’s company. The summer heat pushed them indoors to a nearby Mexican restaurant, where although Isabelle “ate all of the nachos,” conversation flowed effortlessly as they discovered common interests and glimpses of each other’s personalities. After dinner, they took a walk through Baker Park. On a small wooden hanging bridge, Andrew said “This might sound strange, but… with everything going on, I feel like I should ask. I just got Covid tested for work, and I’m negative. Would it be okay if I kissed you?” They shared a kiss, then Andrew walked her to her car, and the date that began with curiosity and a few drinks had extended to over five very special hours. They continued to see each other for the next month. One evening on a picnic blanket, Andrew asked if she’d like to officially be boyfriend and girlfriend. And… she said no. She liked Andrew, but didn’t feel ready. Andrew, with his usual patience and warmth, took it in stride. Over the next 3 weeks, he never rushed her.
