Meg and Jeff's relationship started back in college when they were consumed with homework and lectures (... in addition to intramural sports, Greek life, and beer). Crossing paths in increasing frequency given both were engineering majors and heavily involved in Greek life. As their friend groups started to merge, one thing became clear: Jeff and Meg were meant for each other. Meg and Jeff spent a long time in the flirting/trial stages of a relationship, leading to that much stronger of a bond. The subtlety of their relationship slowly started to erode as time progressed. An example of this is when Meg dropped Jeff off in front of the "Beta" fraternity house and provided a kiss goodbye before parting ways. At this exact moment, Jeff's parents, Kathy and Scott, had also just pulled up in front of the house to see their son embracing an unknown individual. The shroud of secrecy immediately fell, as Jeff could not hold back his excitement about having Meg in his life. After finally becoming a formal couple with about 18 months left at UCLA, both could not be happier as they charted their next chapters in the world. With the "I love you" conversation shortly following the formal start of their relationship, they both knew they were deeply hooked on one another. As UCLA graduation came in June 2018, Meg was gearing up for the next chapter of her medical journey as a student in the UC Irvine School of Medicine M.D. program, while Jeff launched into his full-time engineering role with Lockheed Martin. The four years following UCLA were filled with incredibly fun events, loving dates, and happy memories formed all throughout Southern California. With the convenience of the Hutton's being based in San Diego and the LaRocca's in Laguna Niguel, Meg and Jeff filled their schedules with weekend trips up and down the coast to visit family, explore new areas, and grove their fondness for one another. As Meg's time in medical school came to a close, it was obvious to both Jeff and Meg that the next chapter in their lives, wherever it may have been, would be together. Additionally, Jeff knew all future life moments would be together, as he secretly started to plan a wedding proposal. Coming just in time for their next step of life in Atlanta, GA, the couple formally became engaged in June 2023. Regardless of the chapter of time in which Jeff and Meg most prominently spent time with you, all of you helped form their loving relationship as a lasting bond. The couple is extremely grateful for all the wonderful friends and family that have supported them through the years, and they are honored to celebrate the wedding with you!
Meg and Jeff's proposal story starts several months before June 2nd, 2023. With Meg enjoying surprises but simultaneously wanting to not be completely in the dark, the two attended a formal ring-fitting session in Beverly Hills, CA for Meg's birthday in November of 2022. With a few design preferences locked away and Cathy and Brad's blessing, Jeff had all the info he needed to set the process in motion! Spending a multi-week vacation in Central Europe, Jeff and Meg were celebrating the conclusion of Meg's M.D. program while gearing up for the next phase of their lives in Atlanta, GA. Operating on a tight timeline to get all the proposal plans together before the big move across the country, Jeff strategically planned a gift to hint that a ring and formal proposal was on the way. Enjoying an evening glass of wine on a rooftop in Prague with the city ambiance setting the mood, Jeff revealed pretty earrings as a gift for finishing Meg's medical program. However, Meg recognized the brand of the earrings (as Jeff hoped), immediately realizing the symbolism of a ring purchase had been made. This micro-proposal was one of the highlights of not only Jeff and Meg's trip but their entire relationship. Upon returning to Los Angeles, the hectic schedule of graduations, moving, and proposal was in full force. Setting up the proposal as a phased-event for enjoyment with different family and friends, Jeff coordinated an incredible proposal weekend spread throughout Southern California. On June 2nd, 2023, Meg and Jeff embarked on one of their favorite hikes, the Will Rogers State Historic Park. Under the guise of spending one final outing with a friend from UCLA and UC Irvine that Meg seemingly "planned", Meg was unsuspecting of the ring box Jeff was attempting to conceal during the hike. At the peak of the trail with the panoramic view of the ocean and West Los Angeles in the background, Jeff suddenly pulled Meg aside from their pretend photo being taken and started to point out all the landmarks across the valley significant to their relationship. Pointing out locations of sentimental value like UCLA, prior apartment buildings, and the Santa Monica boardwalk, Jeff professed his love and proposed. After tearfully accepting, Meg and Jeff were formally engaged! The rest of the weekend was filled with time together at a resort along the Southern California coast, a joint gathering of both the Hutton's and the LaRocca's at a winery in San Diego (initially under the guise of a fake party with Jeff's grandma, Nana, in San Diego), and beach bonfire with friends in Santa Monica. Notably, Meg's sister, Natalie, was flown in as an added surprise, capping the elation of the weekend's events. Thank you all for spending our engagement with us and for supporting us through the growth of our relationship. We're so excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you. See you in San Diego!
