Our Story

Meant To Be (as told by Jade)

You'll probably get a different version of this story depending on who you ask. According to Joe, I Facebook stalked him - but obviously that's not how it went down... One night in 2006 while away at school, I was terribly homesick and had a horrible day at work. I called my Dad crying because I was upset I couldn't spend Father's Day with him. My best friend and roommate, Julie Tran, thankfully dragged me out of the house for a night out in Isla Vista (wearing a zip-up hoodie and no makeup, mind you). It was graduation weekend and we ended up at a house party for one of Joe's best friends, Ryan Chatel. I didn't know anyone at the party but I saw someone I wanted to get to know ;) At the time, Joe had shaggy blonde hair and I noticed his intense blue eyes right away. We started chatting and by the end of the night we exchanged phone numbers and became friends on MySpace (yup, that's right). After that night we spoke a few times over the phone and went on one date but since I was still going to school in Santa Barbara and he was living in San Diego - we lost contact a few months later. Five years went by and I was scrolling through Facebook in the middle of procrastinating writing a paper for my MBA program. I noticed a name in the “People You Might Know” column and it was Joe! I thought it was too weird that he would be in that list since we didn’t have ANY mutual friends. I was hesitant to send him a friend request but then I thought “what the heck!”. To my surprise, not two seconds later, Joe had sent me a Facebook Message. Eventually, we planned another date to meet up since we now lived relatively close to one another. Our second “first” date was at Roman Cucina in downtown Fullerton and six years later the rest is history. It’s been a long journey but I know that every moment (good times and bad) had a purpose. In true cheesy fashion, I know in my heart we were/are meant-to-be! :)
