GETTING TO ASSIS: We recommend flying into Rome (Fiumicino Airport – FCO), the most convenient international airport with frequent nonstop flights from San Francisco and many other major cities. From Rome, there are two great ways to reach Assisi: ✈️ + 🚄 Train After landing, take the Leonardo Express train from the airport to Roma Termini (about 30 minutes). From there, board a train to Assisi (the station is in Santa Maria degli Angeli, just below the historic hilltop town). Journey time: approx. 2.5 to 3 hours total Most routes include a simple transfer at Foligno or Terontola Book train tickets: 👉 Trenitalia 👉 Italo Treno This is a scenic and relaxing way to enjoy the Italian countryside. ✈️ + 🚗 Rental Car If you’d like the flexibility to explore nearby towns, renting a car is a great option. The drive from Rome to Assisi takes about 2.5 hours and follows well-maintained highways through the Umbrian hills. Ideal if you're planning to visit places like Orvieto, Spoleto, or Todi Parking is available outside the historic center, with easy access via escalators or shuttles Book a rental car: 👉 AutoEurope 👉 Rentalcars.com ✈️ Alternative Airports You can also consider flying into: Florence (FLR) – 2.5 to 3 hours to Assisi by car or train Pisa (PSA) – ~3.5 hours to Assisi by car or train These airports are great options if you’d like to explore Tuscany before or after the wedding.
