Adam and I went to middle school together at Genesis. By the end of 8th grade, we had become really good friends. I had the hugest crush on him, but he just saw me as a friend. We kept in touch through high school. He even came on a family vacation with me to California in 2000!
Both Adam and I had gone through our struggles in the years after we lost touch. Adam was in a terrible car accident and should have died. God saved him. Through a lot of hard work, Adam learned to walk and talk again. I had gone through school and became an attorney. Although I thought that I was on the right path, I felt so lost. After a series of personal struggles in 2016, I was not sure I was even on a path anymore and had almost given up on everything. On July 29, 2017, I woke up after having the strangest dream. In the dream, I was watching television and Adam, along with his mom and brother, were actors on an episode of Law & Order: SVU. I don't normally remember my dreams once I wake up, but this one was stuck in my head. I had not spoken to Adam in over 5 years. Oddly enough, I still had his number in my phone from when we last spoke. I decided to check in to see how he was doing. Luckily, he had the same number and texted me back a few minutes later. We caught back up on each other's lives. We had never really realized before how much we had in common. Adam was living outside Nashville and going to school. I decided to go visit him and things just clicked. We have been inseparable ever since.
Adam had made plans to celebrate the first anniversary of the day that I texted him. I had just requested a couple days off work, so I didn't think it was a big deal if I had to work on that day. Adam was very adamant about me having the day off work, so I got someone to cover my shift. He didn't tell me where we were going - that was a surprise. When we pulled off the exit, I got really excited because I realized that we were going on the General Jackson, the riverboat in Nashville. Adam had bought us a seat at the Captain's Table, so we were the first to board and got our meal and drinks. As I was finishing up lunch, two members of the cast came on stage to welcome everyone. They mentioned something about a monthly drawing for a free cruise, and that the winner was on board. They called out my name as the winner and told me and Adam to come on stage. I was so confused as to what was happening. The man handed me a clipboard that had a small piece of paper with both of our names on it and he told me to sign at the bottom. This made me even more confused. As a lawyer, I was thinking, "Why do I have to sign here? What does this have to do with anything? I'm not even signing a real document." I took the clipboard and signed my name and the man kind of pointed at Adam. I gave the clipboard back and looked over at Adam. He was down on one knee. I did a double take because I was so surprised! He had hidden the ring in his sock. He had this whole celebration and proposal all set up... and I had no idea! I started crying and of course, I said yes!
On November 3, 2018, Adam and Kim said their vows at Lover's Point Park in Pacific Grove, California. Kim's family used to visit Carmel every summer, so this is a special place to her. When Adam went on a family vacation with Kim, they visited Carmel as well. The ceremony was beautiful as Kim and Adam became man and wife in front of some of their closest family and friends. Adam and Kim are so excited to celebrate their marriage with the rest of their family!
