We’re getting married!

Kenyotta and Darryl’s story didn’t begin with perfection it began with honesty. At just 14 and 15, on an ordinary day that would later mean everything, Kenyotta was walking to the store, minding her business, when Darryl saw her and felt something he couldn’t ignore. Bold and unafraid, he stopped her and wrapped his arms around her, hoping to spark something in that moment. But Kenyotta, true to who she was even then, stood firm in herself. With grace and respect, she politely declined and told him she wasn’t interested. It could have ended right there a fleeting moment between two young people. But what was meant to be, always finds its way back. The very next day, her best friend who would one day stand beside her as her matron of honor came over and spoke his name again. She told Kenyotta she knew Darryl from grammar school, describing him as sweet, kind-hearted… the kind of boy who deserved a chance. Something in Kenyotta shifted. Curiosity replaced hesitation. And instead of waiting for another chance to come to her, she created one. She walked across the street just a block away, yet a distance that would change everything—and knocked on his door. When Darryl opened it, he had no idea that the girl who once turned him away was now standing in front of him, ready to try again. And when she told him she wanted to hang out and get to know him, his happiness was undeniable. In that moment, everything changed. What started as a second chance turned into late conversations, shared laughter, growing understanding and a love that would stand the test of time. Because sometimes, love doesn’t begin with sparks. Sometimes it begins with a “no”… followed by a second look… and the courage to walk back, knock on the door, and say “yes” to something real. And from that moment on… the rest was history. 💙
