NCCU | Summer 2011 Senior year of high school had recently finished, and I was preparing to start my college journey. Freshman orientation was my first experience of the college atmosphere and what I could look forward to in the near future. They split us into several groups to tour NCCU's campus, accompanied with an upperclassmen as guide. It was around afternoon when they decided to round up all the groups and have us go to the auditorium for a whole group exercise. It was during this time when I met Christina. Her friend, or at least seemed to be, had fell asleep while we were waiting for the event to begin and in that moment I politely tapped Christina on the shoulder to wake her friend up because we could start at any time. We chuckled and had a short conversation. Later on that evening after we had went back to our individual groups my friend mentioned Christina was looking for me and wanted to talk some more. Elated by the news - after we were allowed to roam free throughout the dorm, I went around looking for her. We met up in the common area and continued to chat throughout the night into the early morning. Afterwards I walked her to her dorm room door and that was when I grew the courage to ask her for her number before retiring for the evening. She agreed; we exchanged numbers. And like they say the rest was history!
NCCU | Summer 2011 It was June of 2011, and newly enrolled freshman were attending North Carolina Central’s (NCCU’s) Summer Orientation to get more acquainted with the school and each other. During an intermission between longgggggg sessions - I noticed my friend was sleep (and rightfully so). But it was not just me who realized it - a boy (Tyler) tapped on my shoulder to crack jokes about it with his friend. We talked and laughed throughout the session then went our separate ways back to the dorm to chill for the evening. Hours later - I happened to see his friend in the dorm lobby and boldly asked him where “his friend” was (despite never knowing his friend’s (Tyler’s) name). He mentioned that if he saw him - he would let him know I was looking for him. After about 15 minutes or so - Tyler then came downstairs, and we sat on the lobby floor and talked for hours on hours that night/morning. Before going to bed, he walked me to my room and asked me to text him when I wake up. Confused, I looked at him and said "but I don't have your number." He smirked and said "well, I guess we gotta change that - huh?" From that day - we have been talking, texting, oovooing, facebook messengering off and on ever since.
