Ryan was already in the fire academy for Bethlehem and had come home for the weekend to support his local fire department for a fundraiser, at his favorite bar, The Shore House. Katie and her good friend Renee went to support and sat at the bar early to get a good seat. Katie sat with a bloody mary, as Ryan walked in and sat with them at the bar. Renee had known Ryan from the fire department for many years. Small talk happened, but nothing out of the ordinary. As the day went on, Katie as her normal self ended up helping out while having a blast selling 50/50 tickets. She remembers going up to the table in which Ryan had moved to with his friends to ask if they wanted to buy them. He gave her this smile and smirk that she will remember forever. After that day, Katie inquired about Ryan to Renee, many times. They set up a group chat to all get together again. They chose to go to Leggets for Tom Petty Day on April 14. That was the start of weekends travelling back and forth from PA to NJ. Shortly after that date, they went for a ride to Island Beach State Park and walked on the beach, even though it was cold! From that first date to the walk on the beach they have been together ever since. Travelling to and from Bethlehem, PA back to Point Pleasant and vice versa for almost a year and a half! That day on the beach, they made a promise to each other that if this is what they wanted, they would make it work. Everyday they make it work! 💜
Finding a place to live together was a priority for both Katie and Ryan. They both knew that it had to be in Pennsylvania to accommodate Ryan’s work. They looked for a short time before they stumbled on a small cape that was perfect for them to start their journey. On July 5, 2019 they closed on their first home in Palmer Township, PA. They are loving their wonderful neighborhood and the neighbors who have very quickly become their good friends!
Katie and Ryan had planned to get their Christmas tree at Seiple Farms in Bath, PA. They loved that it was a dog friendly environment so that Tiller could tag along. He had a blast there when we went in October to get their pumpkins! They picked a date that worked and planned to take their Christmas card photos that same day. They had asked their new wonderful neighbor, Lori to come along so that they had someone to take their pictures. Katie had it all planned out with a cute Pinterest find with lights and Christmas pom poms, but it was very quickly becoming a mess. Everything was tangled, the wind was blowing, and Tiller was acting like a nut! They had switched sides of the trees to block the wind, and finally got a good picture for the Christmas card. They went back to the Pinterest fail side of the tree and Ryan asked for one more picture. He kneeled down with Tiller under his feet, and Katie also kneeled down, obviously not aware of what was happening! She very quickly realized as he was holding out the ring box and asked her to marry him! Of course she said, YES! It was a beautiful day and that Christmas tree will definitely be one to remember for the rest of their lives!
