This is right next to Catholic University and is the largest church in North America. It is absolutely stunning! We recommend taking a stroll around Catholic U's campus, where it all began for Frank and Sarah, and taking a tour of the Basilica. The closest Metro stop is Brookland / Catholic University on the Red Line.
The National's might not be the best team in baseball, but their games are always a fun time! We recommend stopping at the Bullpen first (an outdoor bar right down the street), then watching a game. There are also several other breweries and restaurants such as Atlas Brewing, Dacha Beer Garden and Mission Navy Yard. You can find the bride and groom here whenever the Red Sox or Phillies are in town! Navy Yard-Ballpark Station (Green Line) is the easiest way to get to the ballpark.
The options here are endless! On the National Mall, you will find the Lincoln Memorial, World War II Memorial, the Capitol Building, the Washington Monument, the Tidal Basin & Jefferson Memorial as well as all of the (free!) Smithsonian museums! Frank and Sarah like to grab an ice cream cone from one of the food trucks nearby and take a stroll around the Mall. The two closest Metro stops are Federal Triangle and Smithsonian (Blue / Silver / Orange Line) but if you want to stay on the Red Line, you can get off at Metro Center.
This is the BEST Italian food in DC (and Frank and Sarah are hard to impress with Italian food). Reservations book out a month or two in advance, but if you can grab one, you won't be sorry. This has been a Georgetown staple for decades and their menu even lists the favorite dishes of past presidents. Sarah recommends the Gnocchi della Mamma and Frank recommends the Chicken Parmigiana. It's fun to stroll around the Georgetown water front after dinner and pop into some shops too! It's a little trickier to get to, the closest metro is Foggy Bottom-GWU (Blue / Silver / Orange Line) and then its about a 10 minute walk. Or, you can drive or use ride-share.
Right near the National Mall and the White House, the Hamilton is another great food option! It's about a 15 minute walk from the hotel or you can use ride-share (or drive) or take the metro to Metro Center (Red Line). They serve American food and are also known for their sushi bar! We would recommend making a reservation as it does get busy in the evenings. Check their website for live shows as they also have a venue in their lower level.
Another awesome Italian place in DC! But beware, they serve family style so the portions are huge! You can get here by Metro and get off at the Judiciary Square stop (on the Red Line) and we would recommend making a reservation. Sarah and Frank like to sit at the bar and split a (massive) entree and enjoy some of their specialty cocktails!
