How blissful the beginning of 2020 was, no one knew what was in store for the world a few short months later. Courtney's dad retired from the Amityville Police Department on January 3, 2020 and that's where this story begins (sort of). Courtney and Matt have known each other their entire lives, being that their parents are friends. While growing up they each heard at numerous times why don't the two of you date? It never worked out either due to the other being in a relationship, etc. However, the stars aligned on January 3, 2020 at the Amityville Fire House for her dad's retirement party. It began with Matt's mom, Kathy, asking Courtney why she doesn't date Matt and her clever response of, "I don't want to ruin Christmas!" Their families traditionally spent Christmas Day together. Cut to later that night, and Courtney grabbing Matt's face and speaking intelligible words and the groundwork was set. A few weeks later Matt asked Courtney to go on a date and in a complete panic move she threw her phone across her Astoria apartment bedroom. They went on their first date on January 31, 2020, first for a drink and dinner at the Sweet Afton in Astoria, then to see her friends play in a band at the Let Love Inn and they've been together ever since. The world changes pretty quickly after that because of COVID but it brought them even closer together. Courtney moved permanently back to Long Island and took a new job closer to home. Matt left the NYPD and is now an Amityville Police Officer. They spent quarantine together as any new couple could, taking walks, exploring new places and going on a lot of ice cream runs. Matt's family has a house in the Outer Banks, North Carolina and in the late summer of 2022, they went on vacation there. On one of their last nights there, Courtney always cold asked Matt to go grab her a blanket, he brought one downstairs and on a knee asked her to marry him. It was the easiest yes of her life. We can not wait to take this next step together and are so excited you are here to celebrate it with us. We can not thank our parents and families enough for loving and supporting us, we love you all and can not wait to keep celebrating with all of you.
