Ian and Kristine first crossed paths at a college apartment party in 2008. They hit it off playing party games but timing wasn’t right and they parted ways that night (but didn’t soon forget each other.) Four years later, Kristine went out for a night with a group of friends from Nordstrom. The last bar of the evening was a late night St. Louis favorite, Talayna’s. Ian spotted Kristine from across the room and decided it was finally time to approach her. He took one last sip of beer and headed her way. “Hi Kristine!” “Hi Ian!” Four years had passed and it was if they hadn’t skipped a beat.

It's a week before a trip we had planned to French lick, which is a vacation spot in Indiana. Kristine has been patiently waiting to be engaged, as she helped finalize picking a ring alittle more than a month prior. I was assuming she would be expecting the engagement on the trip. I spoke with Kristine's sister, Karen, and my sister, Emily, to get their input and heads up for what was coming. Both suggested to do it before the trip so that Kristine wouldn’t be anxiously waiting but could just be in the moment for the trip. So it's Friday night, we leave for French Lick in the morning. It was threatening to rain all evening and I was worried that it would ruin the plan. Sabrina the teenage witch is on TV and Kristine is in her pajamas folding laundry. I wasn't giving up. I go outside to build a fire and bring Kristine outside. I go inside to make us a drink, and get the ring. I come back outside and kneel down beside her. I open the box and tell her how much I love her and want to spend the rest of our lives together. I'm pretty sure she never said "Yes" but I took the hint because she was crying and hugging.
