It was Summer 2020. In the thick of those “strange and uncertain times.” Matt had never been on a dating app before but figured what better time than now, as the world was shut down. Sophie, on the other hand, was quite familiar. Matt, being the Philly city boy that he is, had a VERY small radius on his dating apps. As in, if someone was a mere 6 miles away, that was too far for him. Sophie, on the other hand, was living in the burbs and had quite a wide radius. One fateful day in July 2020, Matt and Sophie both happened to be going to the beach at the same time, and Sophie snuck into that small, 5 mile radius’ of Matts! They both “swiped right” on their apps, matched, and began chatting back and forth for a few weeks. While Matt knew Sophie lived in New Jersey, he assumed she lived near his parents’ Shore House or somewhere in South Jersey, closer to Philly. Nope, she was an hour and fifteen minutes away.. and this information was realized by Matt on the day of their first date. He thought about the long drive and the potential of a long distance relationship, and debated cancelling. However, he enjoyed getting to know Sophie the past few weeks and figured what did he have to lose. He drove an hour and fifteen minutes to Sophie’s area of town and arrived to the restaurant about ten minutes early for their date. Sophie, on the other hand, lost track of time and her Peloton session ran over. Yes, Sophie was late to the date, despite it being a seven minute commute from her house. Despite Sophie’s tardiness, they both hit it off and were practically inseparable since that day. Matt, thank you for taking the leap that day. And thank you Bumble, for having a traveling radius!
