One day in 2018, Somer received a text message from her best friend and maid of honor, Julia, excitedly reporting that she had someone she wanted to set Somer up with. His name was Justin Weaver. The kicker? Somer needed to move back to Owensboro. Living in Nashville at the time, Somer replied with a snarky "haha, that'll never happen." Until it happened. Well, kind of. Julia didn't end up setting Somer & Weaver up, but Somer did move back to Owensboro in February of 2020. Five short months later in July, the stars would align and she would have her first date with her future husband, Justin Weaver.
Justin & I were going to Jekyll Island, Georgia for Kala & Brian Agee's wedding in August of 2021, and we planned to go to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina for a few days afterward. We were so pumped for this trip, and it was the best trip ever. After leaving Jekyll, we arrived in Hilton Head early Sunday afternoon, went to the grocery, and got cleaned up for dinner. At dinner, Weaver asked if I would go watch the sun rise with him in the morning. I didn't think this was weird at all because if you know Weaver, you know the guy LIVES for a sunrise and a sunset. Me, not being a morning person, decided I would do it this one time for him. That morning, Weaver work me up a little before 6am and thank the Lord I was in high spirits and actually a great mood for a girl who can't form a full sentence without caffeine. I rolled out of bed in shorts and an Elton John t-shirt, sporting my glasses and unbrushed hair, and we made the trek down to the beach. Weaver had planned it all out in his head -- we would walk on the beach and then he would stop, pour his heart out, and propose as the sun rose. Me, being lazy and myself, asked if we could just sit down and watch the sun rise. I was already up early and he wanted me to exercise, too? We sat down on a towel and I snapped a selfie of us to for tangible proof that I was actually awake at the crack of dawn. Moments later, as the sun rose over the Atlantic Ocean on Singleton Beach, Weaver stood up and asked me to stand up too. Naturally, I responded with, "WHY!?" Yet somehow he got me to stand up as he knelt down and asked me to be his wife. And all was right with the world.
