Finding a traditional Aó dài may be difficult online. When searching on Amazon, you may have to type in "Oriental Women's Silk Dress" or "Chinese Dress." Vietnamese attire is a little different than Chinese, but we aren't being technical. As long as you look good and cultured :) If you are near SoCal, we would suggest going in person to a Vietnamese store in Westminster.
There are many different types of Indian outfits for women. If you can not go to an Indian store in person, you can search online for Lehenga, Sari (Saree), Salwar Kameez (Churidar), Kurta, Gharara. These are all different styles, 2 piece, long shirt and tight pants, the list goes on an on. If you are looking for a shawl, those are called Dupatta and usually come with an outfit. For men, it's really easy, all you need is a Kurta. Often times it's referred to as a Kurta Pajama.
This store is in the heart of little India in Artesia and has a variety of Women and Men's Indian fashion. Please note little India is closed on Mondays. Bring Cash! You can skip out on paying tax and usually get a lower price! Haggle! A ton of guys have got their Kurta's here for $45!
Here is another place to find Indian attire in Artesia. There are tons of Indian clothing stores in this area, and you'll notice some are more pricey than others. Indian shopping really is about going to a couple of stores and comparing designs, styles, and pricing. If you're a haggler, you will thrive here. Another tip: the more beading and material the more expensive your outfit will be. Don't be alarmed by the price tags, they are almost never the actual cost. Ask an associate for help and what the true price is. We've been to stores where the real price is actually half of the price tag.
This place probably has the most beautiful outfits but can be pricey. You can simply get a skirt if you are a girl and pair it with an American crop top like a bralette or a bandeau or some kind of cropped look. Be creative! Also don't be afraid to bargain and say you are on a tight budget. They want your business so if they think you are leaving they will negotiate with you!
We have also created this Pinterest Board for you to see different outfit styles and options to get your creative juices flowing. This includes Vietnamese and Indian options for both Men and Women. If you're going the Indian route, ACCESSORIZE! Your outfit can be simple, and when you add in bangles, earrings, anklets, chokers, and bindi's (forehead jewelry), it will really bring your outfit to life!
