Simply said, we're both pretty open people. Adventurous? Maybe not so much. Open? Definitely yes. So that leads us to our meeting grounds, also known as @coffeemeetsbagel (CMB). Daniel: Jan 16, 2019. My medical school enters into a lottery for 3rd year sites and I managed to get Palestine, Tx, 1 hour from home. I was so happy and ready to prepare for moving back to Texas. One of the prep was to change my location in CMB to Palestine to look for potential women in the area. CMB was one of the ways I thought God could potentially have me meet the woman he wanted me to marry, so I kept up with it for 3 years and let God do the rest. The next day this beautiful woman popped in as my one and only bagel and she had important things at the top: Christian, family-oriented. I clicked the heart, knowing that my profile containing "want to settle down in my rural hometown in Texas" could scare her off. Jan 18, 2019 I checked the app at noon, saw the message window open up with her, and I haven't stopped talking to her since. Jennie: January 18, 2019. I log on to Coffee Meets Bagel for the 18th time that year, hoping that there would be a decent guy. The past five years had landed me a lot of learning experiences or so to say, and I'd almost quit the dating site at the latter end of 2018. But then, there was this asian guy on my discover page that day (I acutely remember the actual bagel of the day being a dud.) that was a believer, seemed funny, cute, tall, and well educated. So I clicked the chat button that gave him permission to contact me. Two hours later, he messaged me. He kept messaging me, and two weeks later, I realized I really hoped he'd choose to pursue this. I loved his intentionality and honesty. 2 months later, we made it official. 3 months after that, in late July, we finally met at Magnolia Table, for the first time. I choked on capacin, and he still took me to the river. So, I took that as a win. And now, we have our happily ever beginning :)
Jennie: I knew it was coming that week, but I missed all the obvious signs. He's a pretty casual guy who gets hot easily and for some odd reason he was wearing a button up shirt and his heavy winter jacket. I thought it was because we were meeting David and Pam Wong for lunch and he wanted to impress them. In actuality, it was their son and his wife we were meeting. We were coming home from Conroe, after meeting up with Stephen and Crystal. I wanted to stop by Brookshire Brothers to get gluten free cookie mix, but Daniel kept insisting that we go to Camp Olympia first. I had a headache from all the driving and kept insisting we go home. When we were closer to home, he said that he knew I needed the lake to cheer me up. (I am a water baby.) My ears perked up like Baxter's does when he gets a treat, and I willingly agreed. We went to the lake, sat down, and took off my shoes. But then, he told me to get up. And then he asked me to marry him by saying "na rang gyul hon hae jullae?" which means will you marry me-- in Korean. And I said yes. Daniel: The plan was set. I had access to the Camp Olympia lakeside thanks to Cody Mauldin, Christie and the photographers (Amanda and her grandmother) ready to witness/take pictures, and my great-grandmother's ring with me. I wore a good button-up shirt (excused it by trying to wear better clothes in social places with her) and my big coat (bulky & many pockets to conceal the ring), and with a lot of hope I could be sneaky and eventually lead her to camp. We went to the mall and it was so hot I was sweating. She asked me why I was wearing my coat and I told her I needed it to be a good purse for her. After lunch with Stephen and Crystal, Christie texted me if David could come and I sneakily replied "Of course." On the way back to Trinity, she said she had a headache and I casually told her we could go to the camp for some good fresh air at the lake. We got there and I poorly attempted to ask in Korean, "Will you marry me?"
To cut it short, we're pretty chill and moderate people. jennie rarely has preferences unless it's something that she has to definitely decide on or it doesn't jive with her ~vibe~; she's easy to please and likes to go with the flow. she likes coffee shops, wine and cheese, netflix, late night ice cream runs and the occasional bout of tennis with daniel. her favorite places are san diego, d.c., nova, and anywhere there is a lake, a river, or a beach. daniel has solid opinions, but generally likes to keep jennie happy and satisfied, as long as it fits with his standards. he likes tennis and the couch and playing games with colin and david his favorite places are trinity, houston, and london. see? structured but chilllll. that being said, come with your chillest and airiest party outfit on and get ready to meet new people. we can't wait to see you!
