We first met back in 2014 at a church in Lawrence. That morning, my parents were debating whether to attend their home church in Malden or visit another church. They concluded on visiting a church closer to home, in Lawrence. The moment that I arrived, not knowing anyone there, I simply followed my parents in and sat down. A few minutes after I sat down, I could feel that someone was gazing at me. I looked around and saw this tall and handsome gentleman looking at me. It was very awkward at first. But, I found myself staring at him as well – not sure if it was just by curiosity because I really was not looking for a relationship at that time being so preoccupied with school. Once church was over, he came over to greet and welcome me to his church. He later asked for my name and phone number. At first, I wasn’t sure if I should give him my contact info. But, it was as if I heard a voice assuring me that it was ok to do so. It was the start of a pure friendship. We spent time talking to get to know one another without the pressure of a romantic relationship. I later realized that he was different from the other guys I was accustomed with. He was sweet, kind, respectful, and most importantly a God-fearing man. Years went by before he decided to ask me out. Not sure if I should embark on this journey, I asked him for some time to think about it. Throughout the “waiting” period, he never ceased to show me that he cared about me and that he was a true gentleman. I truly believe that God brought us together; it was not love at first sight contrary beliefs – but it was a God-written love story. This man’s perseverance and love for God encourage me to get closer to God each and every day. Like any real relationships, we have had our challenges, but God has never ceased to amaze us through them all.
