Like most modern love stories, ours started on a dating app. It was March 2020. COVID was shutting the world down, a tornado had just torn through the city, and somehow Kara decided this was still an appropriate moment to meet a stranger from the internet. With nowhere public to go and JD not even moved into his apartment yet, Kara boldly showed up to his Airbnb, trusting her instincts. Thankfully, he was, in fact, a safe and normal human being. What was meant to be a first date quickly turned into a game night with friends-and from that night on, they’ve been inseparable. As the world slowed down, they experienced a version of life few will ever forget. They wandered an empty Broadway, got a dog together…and then another…moved into their first home, JD (attempted) to teach Kara golf, they built countless cherished memories with friends and they realized their shared love of traveling (once the world opened up again), music, and saying yes to adventure-frequently packing bags, chasing favorite artists, and making memories wherever the road takes them. After five years of what already felt like married life, JD decided to make it official, proposing on a boat (courtesy of their fancy new boat club). Kara assumed it was just a normal weekend outing and was actually on a work call when JD told her to put the phone down and take off her Apple Watch for pictures (good man). No surprise- she said yes! And here’s the PLOT TWIST: they already got married on 10/23/25! Too eager to wait but unwilling to skip the party with their loved ones, the real celebration will happen on their one-year anniversary, 10/23/26.
