Our Story

On a snowy day in March of 2017, Spencer’s car broke down on his way home to Reno. He came back to his parent's house that night, and the next day, he and his mom went to the mechanic in Placerville. Spencer's mom suggested that he should get a coffee at the drive through coffee shop across the street from the mechanic before he headed back home to Reno, and I was lucky enough to be working that day. I made Spencer his coffee and off he went, only to come back a week later for our first date. We went to Sierra Rizing in Coloma and took a walk by the river. During the next 3 years of Spencer going to school at the University of Nevada, Reno and I going to Folsom Lake College (living 120 miles apart), our weekends would be full of quick visits with longer adventures in the Summer. In 2020, Spencer graduated from UNR and moved back to Pilot Hill with our 2 cats, Odin and Chloe, in tow. Soon after, I decided to go to SOU in Ashland, Oregon, so all four of us made the move out of state in November of that year. I quickly started working as a server in Ashland and met some cherished friends, and Spencer decided to take up teaching at a local elementary school, where he thrived. This job steered Spencer towards a decision to pursue his Master’s in Education at SOU while I was working towards my BS in Environmental Science. Juggling work, school, extracurriculars and everything else in between, I insisted that we add to the chaos, and so we brought our little Gemma home in 2022. We were so excited to finally have a dog in the mix! Another year flew by and Spencer and I were able to finish school and graduate together in May, 2023. We ultimately made the decision to move back home and closed the chapter of our Ashland Adventure in July that year. Since then, we’ve both been working in the environmental field and have been exploring the outdoors in California, taking Gemma with us everywhere we go, visiting family in San Fransisco, and playing trivia (and winning 😉) almost weekly with friends. On a morning in November of 2024, Spencer suggested he and I get coffee at Sierra Rizing and take a walk by the river before our plans for that day. It was a foggy day and the trees were full of Autumn color. We were on the bank that we walked along during our first date and I could sense Spencer getting nervous... pretty soon he was down on one knee and popped the question with a ring he had made with heirloom diamonds that belonged to my grandmother. It was a perfect moment that ended with a tearful and ecstatic YES! We cancelled our plans and spent the rest of the day celebrating with our families. It’s been over 3,000 days full of growth, adventure, challenges, achievements and a whole lot of love. We can’t wait to say “I Do!” and spend another 3,000+++ together. Thank you for wanting to celebrate this special time in our lives with us and for being a part of the journey! With love, Spencer + Marissa
