It’s crazy to think that this wedding is the next step in a relationship more than 11 years in the making. What started as two college kids trying to figure out life has blossomed into two full-fledged adults still trying to figure out life, just together now and with a lot more stamps in their passports. Abby and Kevin first met on the library lawn at Fairfield University during freshman orientation. Kevin was immediately interested in Abby, so he confidently walked up to her and said, “Florida life must be so cool, what's your on Instagram?” Abby obliged, but what Kevin didn’t realize at the time was that she was not interested. She would not follow him back on Instagram for a full year. That changed once Abby heard about “Baking Kevin.” Since Kevin didn’t know many people at Fairfield right away, he spent his time in the dorm lounges baking cookies in exchange for friendship. His baking made him something of a campus character, and it was then that Abby realized there might be something more to the boy she met on the library lawn Freshman year. The summer before sophomore year, Kevin and Abby both moved onto campus early; Abby as a cheerleader, and Kevin as a freshman orientation leader. With few other people around, Abby found herself spending more time with Kevin, who had just gotten his first haircut in more than a year. Seeing Kevin’s new, significantly less homeless person looking appearance, something shifted. By Parents Weekend, they were together, and Kevin nervously met Abby’s older sister Emily, hoping for her approval, while Abby took on the challenge of impressing Kevin’s mom, Beth, who immediately approved. A few months later they made it official in early December, although the exact anniversary depends on which of them you ask. After a year of dating throughout their sophomore year, they geared up for their next grand adventure: studying abroad together in Florence, Italy. 4 months and 11 countries later, they celebrated their 1 year anniversary in Paris (yes, Kevin set the bar high!). They caught the travel bug and confirmed that if they could survive backpacking across Europe without going crazy, they could handle just about anything. One year later, they graduated from Fairfield side by side as Stagmates, looking back on all the ways they had grown together. After graduation, life tested their long distance skills. Abby searched for jobs between Boston and New York while Kevin stayed at Fairfield for his Master’s. She ultimately took a job in Boston, and they became Flixbus’s most loyal customers. Abby took the bus to Fairfield and Kevin drove to Boston every other weekend. They spent years living in the North End in Boston where they built a community, progressed in their careers, and learned even more about what it meant to grow together. During this time they kept traveling whenever possible, falling more in love one trip at a time. Some of their anniversary trips included Christmas lights in Connecticut, winter markets in New York City, shark diving in the Bahamas, Death Valley during COVID, house boating in Key West, skiing in Arizona, ice baths in Montreal, island hopping in Thailand, exploring castles in Quebec, and the list is ever-growing. They also took many trips back and forth to Florida and New Hampshire, where they plan to have their second and third homes once they win the lottery. Kevin even taught Abby how to ski, a milestone that required patience, trust, and a sense of humor. They’ve now visited and skied more than 30 resorts together across the United States and Canada. Every adventure has become another reminder that they are building a life side by side. Which leads us to the next chapter of this story, a destination wedding in sunny Key West, Florida, at the very same hotel we stayed at on our 6th anniversary! We are so excited to share this celebration with all of you and hope you will join us as we spread a little love and maybe even our travel bug to those we love most.
