How We Met

Wedding & Kennedy

Our story began like many others in Portland: within the hallowed halls of Wieden+Kennedy. An advertising agency, with a magnetic attraction, that brings together creative minds from all over the world, including Montana and Delaware. A place with a unique ability to create bonds that turn into relationships that end in marriage. Earning it the un-ironic nickname: Wedding+Kennedy. Like many other advertising love stories, this is a story of a workplace relationship, not of the scandalous sort, but formed by simply being around each other all the damn time. As two co-workers on the Airbnb account, Kayla and Christian evolved from colleagues to lifelong friends over dirty martinis in the cocktail lounges of San Francisco and witty comments in the quiet corners of Portland's karaoke bars (we watch, we don't sing). If it had been up to the groom, they might've stayed friends forever, out of fear of ruining his only true friendship in Portland. But the bride knew better. She let him believe that was realistic...for a time. Then something happened. Something mystical, even magical. Something that thaws the iciest hearts and warps even the most prudent intentions: a Portland Summer. It's an indescribable time of year that turns friendly hangouts into something so much more. Routine weekend lunches become romantic picnics in the park. Spontaneous trips out to the coast become scenic sunset drives. Sips of wine by a backyard fire turn into bottles of bonding because the Portland summer sun just never seems to set. After that summer, the groom had something he told himself he would never have...HE HAD FEELINGS. Feelings he couldn't describe. Feelings he couldn't resist. All the while the bride: a knowing smirk. The good times went from hours of a day to days of a week to months of a year. A love continued to grow that was as inevitable as it was easy. Until the groom realized all that stood between them and a lifetime of good times was a question and a rock. Ideally not a small rock.
