It's the summer of 2014 and we're preparing for the annual Marchdown Stepshow. He arrives wearing a cut up t-shirt, shorts and a hat to teach us an Que hop. My Sorors: "Oooo he's fine." "Girl, look at his body" He takes off his hat. Me: "He's needs to put his hat back on." Needless to say, he was no longer on my radar. Fast-forward about a year later, I'm on Facebook and notice it's his birthday. Being the good Facebook friend I am, I wish him a happy birthday. He invites me to his birthday party that night. I politely decline. He took notice of the food pics I would post on Facebook. Him: "When you gon' cook for me? Me: "I only cook for friends." Him: "I thought we were friends" Me: "How? We barely talk to each other and we never hang out." Him: "I can change that." From that day forward, we talked everyday. Favorite colors, ideal dates that kind of stuff. A month or so passes and I attend a party the Ques are hosting. I'm standing in the middle of the party (minding my own business)... ...AJ stands next to me and holds my hand. Me: "What are you doing?" Him: "You said you wanted something different" Me: [insert smile here] And there you have it...some finger painting, a drunken birthday party and 3 years later...he still makes me smile.
It's Christmas morning at The Chappelle's. After everyone finished opening their gifts, AJ tosses me a organically wrapped package. This is it...the moment I've been waiting for. I can hear my heart beating. I open the package. Inside there is a jewelry box from Robbins Brothers. My heart beats faster. I open the box...and then the box inside....EMPTY! You read correctly. THE BOX WAS EMPTY! I throw the box at AJ (jokingly of course). His sister asks "what's in the box?" To which I reply, "Nothing is in the box!" I turn and AJ is on one knee....with another box *Cue waterworks*
