The Proposal

Daphne's Version

In 2022, Steven's mom, Yvonne, invited me on their family vacation in Maui. I was so excited! And when my family came to visit us in Houston, I shared with them that we were going to Maui, and my parents decided to plan a trip out to Maui at the same time. Yvonne's reaction was "the more, the merrier". Now this was going to be the first time our families were getting together, so I was so focused on making sure we had a great itinerary for this trip. Steven was originally going to propose to me at Coachella because that's where we met in 2019. But since this trip was working out perfectly, he decided to wait. I mean, with our families living in different states, it's always been so hard to get everyone together. Steven asked my sister to help with the ring. He asked my parents for their blessing. His mom planned a beautiful dinner for everyone the night of the proposal. He told my brother as they golfed at Kaanapali Golf Course. My sister made the trip at the last minute. Everyone knew it was happening on that trip except me. Steven knew how important family is to me and made sure to include both of our families together in this special moment. I love this man for understanding who I am and knowing what I hold dear to my heart. A very special thanks to our families for making this happen!

How I Got Down on One Knee

Steven's Version

We first met at Coachella in 2019 through mutual friends, and from the moment we started talking, I felt an instant connection. Fast forward to 2022, I proposed to my best friend during a family trip in Maui - a special occasion where both of our families met for the first time. I wanted the proposal to be perfect, so I spent the week secretly scouting for the ideal spot. I found a beautiful tree by the beach that I called our “love tree.” On the day of the proposal, I spent the morning golfing with her dad and brother while she went shopping with the women in our families. Later, as we got ready for dinner, I asked her to wear her favorite dress. A storm was brewing, but nothing was going to stop me. With a photographer hidden near the love tree, we walked together down the beach path. Miraculously, the storm held off, and the moment felt calm and perfect. Under that tree, I got down on one knee and asked my best friend to marry me - and she said yes! We celebrated with a bottle of champagne while our families cheered from a distance. It was truly magical and a moment we’ll never forget.
