Written in the stars

Our love story began during the pandemic. Jessica was new to her job as an instructional designer at FIU in 2020, and she wanted to start a small community with other instructional designers at the university. So she reached out to a bunch of them, and Gáramis was one of the first ones to respond to her messages. What started off as friendly banter between the two of them quickly turned into a budding friendship. From there, the two found themselves together in a virtual work meeting at the beginning of 2021, where they exchanged information and realized that they had many things in common: i.e., they were both huge nerds. Jessica proceeded to invite Gáramis to her Discord gaming group "Nerds United"; and many rounds of Among Us later, they had started to fall for each other. One phone call from Jessica led to a host of virtual dates (pandemic rules, am I right?), which finally turned into meeting and dating in person. And the rest, as they say, is our wonderful history. The theme of our wedding—"Written in the Stars"—comes from Jessica's engagement ring, which is comprised of a central sunstone with a series of moonstones and diamonds around it. Jessica represents the sun, Gáramis, the moon, and the diamonds, our friends and family.
