The Bride & Groom
Hurricane Sandy had passed the power was out, Lauren and I needed to get out of the house. A last-minute diversion from a house party detoured us to the local watering hole that was running on just a generator. Good Ol’ McCarthy’s pub set the scene for the night we met with the aroma of stale beer in the air. In the powerless empty bar sat a table of a few local union workers, a few regulars and well us girls. No candle lit romance just a dollar store push lights and single stool which for some reason we shared that night as we laughed and shared stories. For me it was the witty sarcasm that made me laugh, but I did not know why as I hated sarcastic people; so, I thought. For him it was the chewed nail polish and my smile. The line that started it all came from Jeremiah as he grabbed the dollar store light and brought it closer to my face. “I just wanted to make sure you look as pretty as I thought.” The night ended in his Jeep where we all continued to listen to music and laugh. Jeremiah asked for my number so it was clear he was interested in seeing me again. The kiss that sealed the deal boldly came from myself. Smooth move, far from… as I went for the kiss, I spilled my beer into the cup holder. The same cup holder where his phone sat. Yup, I broke it that same night. Warning sign? Probably. I guess you can say we feel in love in hopeless place. Some lost during hurricane Sandy. Luckily, we found one another.
