Cooper and Emily met the way all great modern love stories begin… on Tinder. It was 2015, Emily had just come home to San Francisco for winter break from college in Boston, and decided to test out the app. After a few “meh” dates, she swiped right on Cooper—not knowing she was literally his first ever match. (Talk about beginner’s luck.) Cooper asked Emily on a date, and being a gentleman, offered to pick her up. There was just one tiny problem: Emily accidentally gave him the wrong address, sending him to a sketchy abandoned gas station in one of SF’s less-than-romantic neighborhoods. Cooper called saying he’d arrived, and Emily cheerfully replied, “I’m standing outside waiting for you!” Spoiler: she was not. For a brief moment, Cooper thought he’d been catfished and was about to be mugged. Thankfully, Emily corrected the address and the crisis was averted. Their first date included Cooper casually introducing Emily to his friends at a mall, then—no big deal—taking her home to meet his parents and the family’s beloved lab, Bailey Brown. Naturally, Emily was left wondering, “Wait… does this guy even like me?” (He didn’t kiss her goodnight or even mention seeing her again.) But the very next day, Cooper texted her saying he’d had a great time and thought “this could be a good thing.” (Smooth, right?) Over the next year, they went on a handful of dates whenever Emily was back in California, but the long-distance thing made it tricky. Finally, in the winter of 2016, Emily decided to stop resisting the obvious chemistry and officially became Cooper’s girlfriend. Best decision ever. Since then, they’ve survived grad school, traveled everywhere together, and adopted the world’s cutest cats, Tuna & Miso (the cats told us to say that). It hasn’t always been easy, they even broke up briefly during Emily’s first year of grad school, but realized quickly that they were way better together than apart. That “reset” actually made their relationship stronger, and soon after, the pandemic gave them the chance to move in together (first at Cooper’s grandmother’s house in St. Helena, then in L.A., and now in Mill Valley). After Emily caught the bouquet at a friend’s wedding, Cooper knew the pressure was on. He proposed in their Mill Valley home, and now, after nearly 10 years together, Emily and Cooper can’t wait to finally get married and celebrate with all of you in their little town. And yes, Tuna & Miso are very excited to meet their extended family.
