It was September 23rd, I don’t quite remember the year, but my mother loaded me and my sisters in the car to attend my older sister’s friend’s birthday. It was Larissa Swains 16th Birthday that brought me my first and my only love. My sisters and I had been playing volleyball and running around, of course I had noticed Malachi there too. After a few hours of sneaking glances at him, and using context clues to realize the girl next to me at the time was his sister, I finally mustered the courage to turn to her and ask “What is that boys name?” She looked at me and kind of giggled “Malachi” she said, “he’s my brother”. A few more hours go by and it’s now dark, the fire is roaring and all of us kids are playing keep away with a baseball. So I got brave and decided to stick with Malachi for this round. We hid in the bushes with the baseball and as I would pass it to him I would slightly brush my fingers across his palm while he’d grab it from my hand, and I would notice he would do the same thing back. The night went on and me and my family eventually went home, but I went home thinking about Malachi and how cute his dimples were :) I don’t quite remember how I got his number or if he had gotten mine, but what I do remember is how I felt when I first saw him and how I’ve spent my life since that night loving him every more each day.
