Many of these questions pertain to traveling to/from the island. We recommend visiting blockislandguide.com for any additional info!
Question

How do I get to Block Island?

Answer

Block Island is accessible by ferry or small plane. We recommend booking all travel as early as possible, especially for a fall weekend. Traveling by ferry is most common and reliable, with options from Point Judith, RI (year-round) and Montauk, NY (seasonal). Both traditional and high-speed ferries are available (route-dependent). High-speed ferries sell out quickly—advance reservations are strongly recommended. Vehicle spots are extremely limited and must be reserved well in advance.

Question

How do I get to Block Island from Point Judith?

Answer

Point Judith has a year-round ferry service and the most reliable option. Review the Ferry Schedule (https://www.blockislandferry.com/point-judith/). You can arrive by car, train (closest stop is Kingston, RI), or flight (Providence airport). Point Judith offers both traditional (~55 minutes) and high-speed (~30 minutes) ferries. Note: high-speed ferries require advance reservations and often sell out. If you intend to bring a vehicle to the island, you will need to make both a car reservation and purchase a passenger ticket, and book your car reservation by phone. Please note that car spots fill up quickly starting January 2026, and plan to arrive 90 minutes before departure the day of. If you do not intend to bring a car, there is a lot available for weekend parking.

Question

How do I get to to Block Island from Montauk?

Answer

By traveling to Montauk by car or via the Long Island Railroad, you can board the Viking Ferry from downtown (https://vikingfleet.com/schedule-fares/montauk-to-block-island-ferry/). This passenger-only high-speed ferry operates seasonally. The approximate travel time is ~1–1¼ hours. Note: this ferry is weather-dependent, and advance booking is recommended.

Question

How do I get to Block Island by Plane?

Answer

If you are interested in flying rather than taking a ferry, you may take a puddle jumper from Westerly, RI to the Block Island Airport. Please note there are not direct flights with major airline carriers to Block Island, and flight schedules for October are announced in August. https://blockislands-airline.com/index.php
