St. Simons is an island off the Georgia coast. It’s known for its salt marshes and sandy stretches like East Beach. A museum traces the history of St. Simons Lighthouse, rebuilt in 1872 after it was destroyed in the Civil War. Anglers fish off nearby St. Simons Pier, which offers views of Jekyll Island and migrating whales. North, boats travel to Little St. Simons Island, home to birds like spoonbills and gannets.
The island is very walkable and the beaches are not very crowded. However, there is a $6 toll (which is valid for 24 hours) to get on the island.
For guests who are staying in town for a few days, we highly recommend a day or overnight trip to historic Savannah, Georgia! Its historic district is filled with cobblestoned squares and parks such as Forsyth Park shaded by oak trees covered with Spanish moss. Things of particular interest- River Street, Colonial Park Cemetery, and Walking Night Time Ghost Tours!
