It all started on a warm Thursday night in early June at Smithy on Henderson in Dallas. The second Hilary walked through the door for their first date, Mike spotted her — and for him, that was it. Love at first sight. Hilary’s not one to show her cards too quickly, but let’s just say her subtle goodbye-hug butt graze might’ve confirmed the feeling was mutual. Two dates later, over pasta and wine at Terelli’s, they sat across the table holding hands, and in that moment, both knew this might just be a forever thing. From there, it was a Southern guy and a California girl discovering how different their worlds were, yet how perfectly they fit together. Mike brought his Southern charm, his love for the Lord, a lifelong passion for football from his days punting for the University of Alabama and some southern eating habits. Hilary brought her West Coast energy, an adventurous spirit, a love for the outdoors and sunsets, and a much healthier diet 😉. They had plenty to learn about each other’s way of life: Hilary quickly realized “Roll Tide” isn’t just a saying, it’s a lifestyle, and Mike learned that travel points (and plenty of sunscreen) are essential when visiting Hilary’s family in California regularly. Over the months that followed, their love grew through a blur of weddings (seven, to be exact), countless flights between Alabama and California, and endless introductions to friends and family. With every trip and shared experience, it became clear they weren’t just falling in love, they were building a life together. During Mike’s first trip to San Diego, he finally understood why life on the West Coast didn’t revolve around football. He spent a fall Saturday on Hilary’s family’s boat in the San Diego Bay, watching Alabama lose to Tennessee on his phone. That night, he saw his first California sunset at Monarch in Del Mar, overlooking a wedding at L’Auberge across the street — a moment that felt almost too perfect to be real. They didn’t know it then, but that very spot would one day become the place where they’d celebrate their own “I do.” Hilary and Mike share a love for fellowship, food, and travel and find joy in life’s simple moments: Sunday church, long walks after work, and nights spent laughing over cards and homemade dinners. They balance each other in all the best ways, Mike keeps life positive and logical, Hilary keeps it silly and bright; and together, they make every day a little better than the last. In May, during a trip to Tulum, Mexico, Mike got down on one knee on the beach and asked Hilary to be his wife.
