If you are flying in, we recommend taking the L (subway) or a Lyft/Uber into the city. Then using Lyft/Uber or public transportation to get around. 

If you type your destination into the google maps app, click "directions", then switch to the public transportation mode (which looks like a bus), the app will give you detailed directions. You can buy a pass at L stations. However, if you'd like to take a bus you'll need a Metra card (can be purchased at L stations also) or change.

When booking a hotel, be sure to check parking fees. Some hotels charge up to $60 per day to park. Another parking option is spothero.com.
