Once upon a time, Marvis and Lex met at a fundraiser for the Chicago Urban League's Metro Board. Lex just joined the organization and Marvis wanted to volunteer and take in the discounted drinks/food. As she supervised the fundraising activities, Marvis eventually worked up the courage to say hello. In fact, Marvis vividly remembers whispering to a friend, "Wow, you see her, that's my Michele Obama!" She didn't realize it at the time, but Marvis was purposefully creating conversation and making subtle (but intentional) efforts to engage her. After he attended a few more Urban League events, Lex finally caught on and agreed to share her number. As she walked out an event, she told Marvis to text her. A few seconds later, she spun around and let it be known that she had in fact changed her mind. "Actually, don't text me. You should try calling instead." Marvis smiled and said that he would. Their first date was at a nice restaurant, A10, in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago. Somewhere in between the laughing, intellectual conversation, and Lex convincing Marvis to try oysters for the first time in his life, hours passed by and neither wanted to leave. After walking her to her car, opening the door, and saying goodnight, they both felt something and knew they'd found someone special. The rest as they say, is history. We are so grateful to be able to share this important moment with our closest family and friends.
