Labor Day Weekend, 2014 We both happened to be at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club on Labor Day Weekend. I was reading a book (alone), while Matt was having fun with his group of friends. He happened to be with one of my best friend's brother, Ryan Sparks, so I waved. Next thing I know, Matt is next to my beach chair asking me a ton of questions. One of those questions being, "So my friend wants to ask you out, what do you think?". My response was "Well, then why doesn't your friend come over here and ask me?". Let's just say, Matt and I didn't end up going out that year. Labor Day Weekend, 2015 We both happened to be at the Beach Club again this year. Matt noticed me and insisted that Ryan give him my number. Matt consistently called and texted me for the next three months. I finally gave in saying that I would have lunch, "as friends". He said, "If we do not have a good time then I will lose your number forever. If we do have fun then I get to take you on a proper date." We finally went to lunch and the rest is history.
Every Sunday we go on a family walk with our dog, Alani. This Sunday was no different. Luckily, Matt asked if I could wear his favorite Lululemon pants of mine. Otherwise, I would've be in some run down workout clothes and hated our pictures. We took a walk around La Jolla Cove. We stopped near the Wedding Bowl and he asked if I wanted to go on the cliff and check the surf. He wrapped his arms around me and I could feel his heart racing. Then someone started yelling at us and I got really curious. Matt made some gestures and then distracted me by talking about how beautiful the view was. He said, "Don't you want this forever?". Turned me around, got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him. I said, "YES!" Little did I know that the man yelling at us was a homeless person. Our dear friends, The Laings, were hiding in the bushes taking photos of our engagement. This man got mad and started yelling at them to stop taking pictures of "random people". Too funny to not share!
