It all began in March of 2018 at Southwest Kia of Rockwall, where fate quietly brought us together. I, Diana, balancing my first semester of college while trying to figure out my path in life. Colby, a dedicated mechanic, was also navigating his own journey. Both of us carried the weight of past heartbreaks, unaware that something beautiful was waiting just around the corner. At the time, we were simply coworkers exchanging smiles but God had bigger plans. May 2019, our friends JT and Dave invited me to a Memorial Day cookout. What I didn’t know was that they had a plan to set me up with Colby. One casual cookout quickly turned into regular hangouts with “the boys.” Naively, I thought I was just part of the group, but looking back, I realize they were playing the role of wingmen all along. After countless moments at work and late-night hangs, Colby and I started to grow closer. But like many beginnings, ours wasn’t perfect. I was ready for a relationship, but Colby was still sorting through his own life. It felt like things weren’t moving forward, so I made the hard decision to leave. I quit Kia and walked away, unsure if we’d ever find our way back to each other. Then came October 2020. Out of nowhere, Colby showed up at my job with a bouquet of sunflowers, asking me to give us another chance. He invited me to a Halloween party, and though I was hesitant, his persistence and sincerity melted my doubts. That night felt like magic, like no time had passed. By November 21, 2020, he asked me to be his girlfriend. For a while, everything was amazing. But the past still lingered, and I walked away again, thinking maybe we just weren’t meant to be. Yet, neither of us could truly let go. We stayed in touch, checking in on each other when life got heavy. On October 17, 2021, everything changed! I remember getting a text from Colby asking how I was doing. I told myself I wouldn’t respond this time… but my heart had other plans. That night, I drove to his apartment, surprising even myself. We talked for hours. Somewhere in that moment of vulnerability, he asked me to move in with him. It was a big step, and I was nervous, but I said yes. It was the best decision I’ve ever made. Looking back now, I realize every obstacle brought us closer. We learned to communicate, to cherish each other, to never take what we have for granted. Every day feels like a new memory being written, and a new reason to continue to fall in love with eachother. Fast forward to November 21, 2024- our anniversary, Colby came home from work as I was getting ready to have dinner at Rex's Seafood Market, our favorite spot. Before we headed out, he handed me a card like every anniversary and it said... "I know this anniversary isn’t as important as 10/17, but it’s the day that started our journey. I’m so happy I asked you to be mine on this day years ago. We’ve had ups and downs, but my love for you only grows stronger. Today, I want to make this day even more special. Lets take a second and cherish this moment and what we have made. So stop reading my mushy card and pay attention to me…" I looked up, and there he was, reaching for my hand, smiling nervously. “I know you didn’t think this would ever happen,” he said softly, as he got down on one knee "Will you marry me?” I had to pinch myself multiple times. Was I dreaming? Even now, I sometimes feel like I’m still dreaming. By far the easiest "YES" I've ever made in my life. We’re beyond excited to celebrate this new chapter with all of our loved ones. Our story has been full of twists, but every moment has led us here, proof that real love always finds its way back. Stay tuned… our story is just beginning.
