Recommendations for out-of-town guests are hard as this is a remote location.
There is a campground on the lake that anyone is more than welcome to book and stay at. 
The closest place to stay outside of camping is in Duluth. There will not be a hotel blocked off, as you can decide where works best for you and your loved ones!
