After the Interstellar Warlock Alliance was defeated, the Milky Way entered a golden age of peace. Trade thrived, and hundreds of systems began to put their vast funds into infrastructure, art, and the advancement of civilization on a galactic scale. All was well. But a shadow lurked in dark space. An ancient threat from a distant galaxy, the Ak'Shultan, a vicious race bent on conquest, was nearing the Milky Way as part of their conquest of the Universe. Despite mounting reports, the Galactic Conclave dismissed accounts of strange ships appearing, as many politicians under Prime Minister Ug'Glub were in a race to use peace as a position to claim even more power and would not risk their positions to address rumors of an unlikely emerging threat. Little did the galaxy know that it was already too late. The Ak'Shultan poured into the Milky Way with their fleet of over a million ships, carving a swath of destruction through the galaxy, sparing no race, planet, or system. No matter what defense the Galactic Conclave put forth, the Ak'Shultan remained resolute in their dedication to invade the Milky Way and strip it of every resource, further fueling their conquest of the Universe. All seemed lost. 
With no other recourse, the Galactic Conclave launched a suicidal attack, a massive final battle at each system of Orion’s Belt. Yet, after countless sacrifices and bold strategies, the Milky Way emerged victorious! And through this victory, the impossible was now possible: the Ak'Shultan could be defeated. Inspired by this monumental success, the hearts and minds of the galaxy were rekindled, and resistance spread like wildfire. Battle after battle won, hero after great hero arose, and, though losses were great, the Ak'Shultan were eventually defeated and driven back into dark space— crippled beyond repair, thus ending their conquest. The Milky Way was at peace once more. A thousand years before that, Kat and Gia met at work.
